Nonprofit company makes its owners wealthy

Photo by: eszterWhen operating a business making a hefty salary is what many people dream about, and a California couple did just that.  Edward Dawson started his business in 1978 and he and his wife Marcia built it into the $63 million a year business it is today.  Over the past five years the couple have earned more than $7 million in salary and deferred compensation.  The problem that arises is that these two collect their wealth from operating a nonprofit funded by taxpayer dollars.  They have been able to secure this money by squeezing by and barely playing by the nonprofit laws that are out there.  A bigger question to ask when looking at this is how morally right is what they are doing.To read the entire article, please follow the hyper link to the Los Angeles Times web-page.

Auditor finds non-profit group squandered $3 million of taxpayer money on own entertainment

A Kentucky non profit group which is funded largely by tax payer dollars was found to have been using that money on sports tickets, alcohol, and even strippers.  The Kentucky state auditor found the officials from the non profit group Kentucky Association of Counties blowing the money for their own personal enjoyment.  The total of the money spent was just over $3 million in a three year period.  After these accusations came out, one of the board members resigned his position.
